Apart from being totally mad and gluttons for punishment, the team are climbing this mountain both for the personal challenge and to use their energies raising money for a worthwhile charity.
Debbie Rogers, a trustee at Cementing Futures, cunningly persuaded the rest of the climbers to use up 8 days of their holiday entitlement on this challenging task. Included in the trip will be 8 days camping in Africa, where they can enjoy meeting people from a different culture, fresh air (at the base camp anyway..!) and of course not forgetting the sheer torture that comes with climbing the largest free standing mountain in the world!!
Apart from the sense of achievement when they make it to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, they will also have the satisfaction of knowing the climb back down will be much easier, and that their efforts will also have raised funds to support children living in poverty, who are unable to access education. By providing children in poverty with accessible facilities to be educated, we will all be helping these children and their families achieve a brighter future.
Cementing Futures is a new charity which is supported by volunteers who donate their own time, money and effort to fundraising. By taking part in the climb up Mount Kilimanjaro the team will give them a huge boost in their efforts.
